A murderer lurks in the London fog, leaving behind the bodies of young blonde women. The press is in a frenzy, the public is in hiding, and the police are hunting down the man who signs his crimes with the strange pseudonym: ‘The Avenger’. The Jacksons are among the Londoners terrified by the serial killer’s atrocities, and when a young man (Ivor Novello) rents a room in their house, the good-natured couple view his odd behaviour with suspicion. Their daughter Daisy (inevitably blonde) is the object of frenzied courtship from Joe, the police inspector in charge of the investigation into the killer. When he realises that Daisy is not immune to the new lodger’s charms, he begins to stir up the Jacksons’ suspicions...
