The exhibition will take place from 30th January to 11th February 2025 at the SEL, 27 Grande rue, 92310 Sèvres (France).
This book brings together 120 African artworks, most of which have never been published before, carefully selected from a collection built over time by two specialists in the history of African art. Each piece is described and analyzed to encourage a way of “seeing” art that transcends familiar and limiting cultural perspectives. This illuminating journey through a diverse range of works offers a wide array of emotions. In sub-Saharan Africa, amidst centuries-old craftsmanship, the talent of many authentic artists—too often overlooked—comes to light. This exhibition aims to be a milestone in the path toward the full recognition of African art by other cultures. These creations, without question, deserve their rightful place among the most treasured legacies of humanity’s global heritage.
